Copyright, designs and other stuff you and us all care about!
September 5, 2007 at 11:00 am | In Bountee, Business | 5 CommentsWe get a load of emails here into Bountee HQ. And most of them are nice :)
The majority of them have a question or two attached as well – with perhaps 80% of them talking around issues of copyright and ownership of designs.
Here’s an example of one we had today:
I have a little question about using the site to produce some merchandise for my band . Is there any issue with reselling t-shirts on another site?
And just briefly, here is our answer:
If you mean in linking to us from another site? = No problem at all.
If you mean selling stuff that you have bought from us on another site? = No problem at all.
If you mean having the same shirt design on another site for sale by another company similar to us? = No problem at all (as long as THEY let you!).
:)
It’s your designs dude… You do what you feel is right with them! :D
Other than perhaps the misplaced ‘dude’ in that last sentence – we like to think that our sentiment is spot on.
Let’s be honest here – this site is nothing without your help, your designs and ultimately your talent. We can’t speak for other people and other business/websites who ask for ownership of your work and everything else, but for Bountee -unless you and us have an agreement that says otherwise – YOU own YOUR work. And always will.
I just thought that it would be nice to mention that.

The voting system is much improved and i see one (of my 3) devil designs actually now has 2 stars.
But what i really want to know is where are my little devils in the voting page???
There are newer designs since i submitted mine, but also there are older designs that are showing here too, but none of my devils are included on the voting gallery at all ..Aagh!!
So how did the one devil get the two star rating when it never appeared in the ratings at all?
Answer that and stay fasionable.

Hi Jimbo: There are two different things working here I think.
1) The votes that you see are only for shirts that people have submitted into the MOST WANTED listing. These are for shirts that people really think are good enough to be voted onto the Bountee homepage.
2) The star votes are purely how people rate your shirt whenever they see it; regardless of it being placed into the Most Wanted vote or not. You could in theory have a 5 star shirt and never have it make Most Wanted status.
Does that make sense?
Also, you won’t be able to see your own designs in the Most Wanted vote pool – ’cause that just wouldn’t be fair :)
Hope this helps?

Hi Hunty, thanks for your answers.
About “shirts that people have submitted into the MOST WANTED listing” i thought thats what i was doing when i clicked ‘Submit my design to the vote’ (think thats what the button says) on my user page, under each of my design image thumbnails (see: http://www.bountee.com/user/jimbo )
Is Bountee’s vote system:
1st, ‘Submit my design to the vote’ Then once in the voting arena and after design reaches an unknown level of votes it qualifies for a 2nd rownd of voting to achieve MOST WANTED ?
Anyway i may have lost the plot on voting.
What i’m really hanging out for is verification on my paypal account to buy my designs on your shirts, after i’ve checked the physical quality of my purchased items then i’ll upload more designs and will link my user page here to my blog.
Will it be possible down the line to pay other than using paypal?

Ah. I see some confusion. And I think I know where it came from.
We had a little code rollback – so the dialogue boxes on the buttons were a little skewy. Sorry about that.
Anyway…
“Submit for vote” is purely for MOST WANTED. Nothing else.
Making a shirt for sale allows people to Star Rate it.
As for Paypal verification I don’t think I understand.
You need to have a PayPal account (email address) set-up in your profile in order for Bountee to pay you your sales profit.
Currently you can buy shirts using your run of the mill credit cards.
Hope this helps a little?
