Getting Approval…
June 5, 2007 at 2:42 pm | In Bountee, Business, Code & Tech | 11 CommentsAfternoon all. We’ve been getting quite a few emails to Bountee HQ from people depressed and upset that they are receiving a lot of rejection emails from their fellow Bountee’ites – telling them that their designs didn’t ‘make the grade’.
Because this is such a big issue (rejection is never nice) I wanted to explain a little about the process to see if it would help? I really do appreciate the frustration.
I too have been rejected – *sob*
A little goes a long way
A lot of people are submitting 5 or 6 versions of the same design/illustration in several different colour-ways/versions – and this may be the downfall of many I feel.
You see, the way the system works is that any design needs to hit a ‘positive‘ votes threshold before it gets approved. The more positive votes it attracts compared to negative votes, the quicker it’ll be approved for the website.
The problem with this system at the moment – and we are constantly working on it – is that if you do a design that is the same over say, 10 shirts, then rather than gather the 10 collective votes for the great design, what you actually end up getting is just the 1 positive vote for 10 different designs (does that make sense?).
So actually, it may be worthwhile resubmitting but with only one, preferred colour way or style option.
Basically the advice is this. If you have a design that rocks try staggering it’s release over a couple of days, or sessions on the website – especially if you really feel it works well on several colours of t-shirt.
I hope this helps explain the system a little? Thoughts?
Site/Code Update
June 1, 2007 at 1:55 pm | In Bountee, Code & Tech, Freshness | Leave a Comment
So today we’ve tweaked a couple of things with the site that were bothering us (and probably you also :-p).
If you take a look at the most popular bar on the right hand side of the page now you’ll see that it ranks designs far more efficiently – and if you ‘view all‘ you’ll notice that not only does this link actually work now [about time huh?] it also displays the number of votes that each item has received. So you’ll finally be able to make a more reasoned judgement as to just how *hot* that design is – or if it’s simply received one solitary 5 star vote from – I don’t know - some unscrupulous designer with more than one account (perish the thought :-p)
There, that’ll do for today I think. Thanks again for all of your support and suggestions too – we’re updating the FAQ as fast and as thoroughly as we can!
Enjoy the weekend!
Bountee on Tcritic
May 31, 2007 at 9:40 am | In Bountee, Business, Other People | 3 CommentsWe’ve just been sent a nice little write-up on the site from TCritic today too.
Thanks as always for the link-love guys – and also worth popping over to join in the discussion on the DTG printing process that we use too.

Anyone else seen Bountee out in the wild?
More shirt imagery!

What’s with all the blue?
May 29, 2007 at 4:14 pm | In Bountee, Shirts! | Leave a CommentHey everyone,
Hunty here again – it’s been an age since anyone from Bountee last blogged, and frankly we feel bad about it. But we wanted to let you know that it’s all been for a good cause – because we’ve been hawking our (and your) wares around this little Internet of ours and trying to drum up as much good, quality traffic as we can; so that we can all begin to pay for that sandwich we bought at work today instead of making one at home and packing it up for lunch.
But we can’t do it all alone – so I wanted to remind you of the little blog widget that all designers get within their ‘CREATE’ page, and to say that if you really want to ‘maximise your revenue‘ and to ‘create synergy with the consumer‘ whilst ‘achieving your true sales potential through affiliation’ then we would love it (and you) if you could blog about your shirts, or tell your mates on facebook, or mySpace or whatever the new kid on the social networking block is these days (we’re quite partial to Virb actually!).
Just think, if we all did this then one day the whole world would be wearing our shirts, and maybe the love that went into creating them would leak out onto the greater public at large.
Wouldn’t that massive public leaking just be wonderful?
Oh and while we here – what’s the deal with all of the blue shirts lately?
Most Recent Bountee – Check the blueness…
I’ve always been partial to orange myself – but no-one ever seems to like to design for orange lovers anymore.
IDEA for COMPETITION:
100% off Gift Code towards their next Bountee purchase to ANYONE who designs and uploads a swanky Orange shirt for me to wear at my daughters’ “Dads come into school and eat a meal with us” day. It can be anything you like, but if you manage to fit it around the following keywords then you get extra, bonus credit:
Pasta, Cuddles, Books and err… Puddings!
The winner will be picked by me (Hunty) and paraded as shirt of the week on or before the 30th of June.

Well, after the payment woes, the supplier angst and the fear of our product finally being in peoples’ hands, I think we can say that we are pretty satisfied. And the feedback we’ve had from people so far has been wonderfully constructive – even the negative – so thank you everyone! Thanks too for Mark Frudd who has taken some great shots of his delivery and given us a nice *thumbs up* on his blog.
His original, and frankly beautiful design can be found here. Thanks for the props Mark – nice to see the shirts out in the wild…
Anyone else got any photos they’d like to share?

Pay Day – For Real!
May 15, 2007 at 9:07 pm | In Bountee, Business, News | Leave a Comment
Well, in the immortal words of P ‘Sean ‘Puffy’ combes’ Diddy – it’s all about the Benjamin’s! And today we *finally* resolved the PayPal problems and were able to get our well-deserved payments out to the hundreds of Bountee’ites who made sales last month (April).
We said it to each of you individually before, but we can’t thank you enough for the incredible first four weeks of our life online, and we hope that we are returning your faith with us by developing strong new features (community voting) and in the best possible way – ca$h Mon£y! :)
Thumbs Up!

YAY! We’re 100% community controlled!
And we can’t begin to tell you how happy we feel about it. After all of the comments and feedback (mostly constructive :-p) we’ve worked really hard these past 2 weeks or so to make the Bountee* experience something that we always promised it would be – By The People! For The People!
So how does it work?
Well, it’s quite simple really. You upload your design as normal, add a title, some tags, a description and price as before – only this time the site gets made available for your fellow Bountee peers on the homepage to vote upon.
If your design is liked and lots of people say they like it (compared to the people who said they weren’t so sure) then you get an email to say “Congrats!” and the design WILL go live and made available to buy!
Your shirt has 10 days within which to get enough votes, and if after that time you still haven’t been given the golden email of approval :/ then the design will just disappear gracefully from view – and be made available within your create area (where very soon you’ll be able to remove it from view completely – should you wish!).
So in a nutshell…
Vote true and vote often! This isn’t a ‘design competition’ – it’s a democratic process of approval – which sounds terribly dry doesn’t it? How about just calling it…
“A place where I know I’ll be able to find amazing designs – because I helped pick ‘em!”
As usual we welcome your thoughts and comments – this is your site after all.
The History of the Tee-Shirt
May 14, 2007 at 11:54 am | In Bountee | Leave a CommentMorning All,
Gelf Magazine have a wonderful little *infographic* on the “History of the Tee-Shirt* which made me chuckle on this cold, dark Monday morning and I thought it might be of some use/inspiration to someone today!
In other news: Today should see the launch of the new, swanky approvals process – all managed by YOU the community – which means that Bountee.com will now, well and truly become a site by the People for the People!
(More on that later I think :p )

Just a quick post today as we are still knee deep in ‘delete design’ and ‘community approval’ code.
So only a couple of things to say:
1) Payments WILL happen on the 15th of May still – according to PayPal.
2) I am so happy that they reprinted this over at Threadless! I just love the work of Olly Moss!
3) This bountee*full shirt design by RypeArts is just wonderful!
That is all.
